The best advice I was recently given

“Grow or go.”

It’s simple.

These three words were recently said to me at work and are definitely most applicable to the workplace. If you are in a position where you are not growing, then it is time to go. If you are in a position where you can never be promoted or move up from where you are, change is needed. Your talent and your experiences could be more useful somewhere else and appreciated on a greater level. There is nothing wrong with taking everything you have learned and starting somewhere new. The key is to move forward once you feel as if you have learned everything there is to learn. If you stay in a position where you are not growing, you are wasting other opportunities to better yourself.

Be selfish. No one works their ass off to stay static. There is nothing wrong with reaching your fullest potential and then applying your wisdom and knowledge in a new setting.

If you feel like:

  • You are not learning
  • You are stuck
  • Your talent is being wasted
  • You are being used
  • You are not utilizing your strengths
  • You are not being challenged enough

Then it is time to GO.

When things become too easy, change never occurs. You become really good at handling repetitive situations and it leaves no room for opportunities to challenge yourself.

The same goes for relationships. Good relationships are meant to be learning experiences and to serve has mediums for growth. They are meant to teach you things about yourself and you are meant to learn from what you go through.

If you feel trapped in a toxic relationship with someone who constantly puts you in a bad mood instead of a good mood, then it is time to go and spend time with people who brighten your day. It is so important to spend time with people who help make you a better person.

It is just as important to be at a job that helps make you a better worker. You cannot let your career or people in your life hold you back. Take complete advantage of every experience and use it to grow. Better yourself. You are the only person in control of you. Be the best you.

new

I really needed this advice when it was given to me. I am in a place in my life that I never expected to be in: working part time and not utilizing my college degree. Never in a million years would I have ever thought I wouldn’t have a full time job by now. I keep finding myself very comfortable at my current job and not having the urge to look for new jobs. It does not help that I have been there for six years. Of course I am comfortable. But it is time to go. I am in a position where I will probably never be promoted. The job I would want within the company is already filled and I cannot wait around forever just hoping it maybe possibly someday opens up. I need to do what is best for me. I know I have too much potential and talent to be wasting my time. As grateful as I am for my current job and as much as I enjoy being there, I cannot help but feel as if I am wasting my degree. I am so grateful that someone told me “grow or go” because it gave me the push I needed to step out of my comfort zone. Now I have an upcoming job interview that I am very excited about and I know whatever is meant to happen will happen. As much as I would love to stay at my job and climb the corporate ladder, I cannot wait around making minimum wage in the meantime. I’m not growing so it is time to go.
